OFF THE GROUND (2016)
The last time I saw my son Victor was 11 years ago. He now lives with his mother and the father of his two younger brothers in Southern Brazil. Life takes turns you can't control as you'd wish. Circumstances and the distance between us let him slowly disappear from my life. What remained were memories and physical objects. One of these is a toy plane that was once mine as a child.
In my research I looked for the fitting visual expression that would show the processes and changes of our relationship as well as my memories of him. Eventually the lossy file type JPG provided the appropriate vessel for my experience. If you make a copy of such a digital image file you get a resulting picture that will look exactly as the original. The same happens if you make another copy of the first copy. However, if you continue this process and generate several thousand copies, the upcoming interferences will translate into visible noise.
Producing this work was the first necessary step to get back in contact with Victor.
