A significant visual condition of the Netherlands is how traffic infrastructure is designed and organized, in particular "De Randstad", the conurbation of Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam. Here, around half the Dutch population lives on less than a quarter of the area of the total country. Hence highways, intersections and bridges everywhere.
There is something courageous about the Dutch approach to bold architecture. And one can see it back even in non-architecture like intersections and the like. As a concrete lover, it is difficult to resist the millions of bridges over the thousands of canals, grachten and rivers.
Being unwell and in a dark place after graduation, I've been bound to home and could only work nearby. This was my first attempt to get into a flow of working again. After having left the strict but helpful ass-kicking corset of KABK I needed thus a project that helped me to stay sharp. Yet, I unexpectedly stopped after only a few months, suddenly having lost interest.
Since rediscovering this series, I now see a quality in them that I didn`t notice when I put the project down.
